Sony has been bringing houses of worship into homes for decades with their exceptional PTZ cameras. The Sony EVID series offers a complete line up. The EVID series consist of Sony’s EVI-D70 (EVID70), EVI-D80 (EVID80), EVI-D90 (EVID90), EVI-D100 (EVID100). Each camera is pan tilt, zoom (PTZ) ready, has six preset positions, and uses the Sony VISCA protocol via RS-232 and RS-422 (except the EVI-D100 RS-232 only).

The EVI-D70 is an 18x optical zoom video conferencing analog camera with fast pan and tilt movement that are ideal for remote shooting applications such as spacious conference halls. This camera combines a high quality 1/4 type EXview HAD™ CCD imaging device all in a compact easy-to-use package.

Protecting your investment is a top priority. The EVID70 cameras have proven to be durable and operate in several conditions even without a dome. However, just in case that extra layer of protection is needed the Sony EVIRD7-Indoor vandal resistant (durable cast aluminum), pendant mount (1.5″ npt), tinted dome housing with RCA male to BNC patch cable, and mounting bracket is an excellent option. Not only is the EVIRD7 vandal resistant, its tinted dome does not reveal the camera’s pointing direction allowing for even more discretion.

The EVI-D80 is 18x optical zoom, ceiling mountable pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera features interlaced and progressive scan modes. The E-Flip function allows for more flexible design-in options helping achieve perfect shots for videoconferencing, house of worship, distance learning, and telemedicine.

The EVI-D90 model is the first NTSC 28x optical zoom model and has an added feature of the Wide-D function that protects against blocked shadows and blown highlights. This camera performs best in the shifting lights of houses of worship, sporting events, as well as the subtle lighting in dim conference rooms.

The EVI-D100 is a high-quality CCD camera that combines a high-speed, quiet pan/tilt with a wide-angle view and 10x optical zoom (40x digital). It also includes auto focus and automatic exposure control with back light compensation that are fast and stable easily coping with difficult lighting conditions such as courtrooms, concert halls, and houses of worship. This camera offers the most attractive price, the lowest in Sony’s PTZ line up.

The EVID line-up provides some of the best pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ camera) imaging options available today. Consider using these excellent Sony PTZ cameras for your broadcast, conference room, corporate training, distance learning, remote monitoring, sporting events, house of worship and videoconferencing applications.

For more than 40 years, Computar® has been the world leader in optics across industries including intelligent traffic systems, machine vision, defense, security and life sciences (“About Computar”, 2017). Computar achieves longevity by providing high-quality optic products developed through Japanese engineering. The latest series of optic products are the MPY Series lenses. The MPY Series combines high-performance optics with a variety of common focal lengths for maximum application flexibility. The series includes the lenses V0828-MPY, V1228-MPY, V1628-MPY, V2528-MPY, V3528-MPY, and the V5028-MPY.

The MPY Series includes 12 Megapixel, C-Mount, smallest format lens for > 10MP lens in the industry, F 2.8, 3.45µm pixel size, and an Image circle of Ø17. However, the difference appears in the fixed lenses that vary from the V0828-MPY (8mm) to the V5028-MPY (50mm). The lenses are compact, lightweight, and easily mountable. There are a variety of Computar lenses and products to choose from at http://www.aegis-elec.com/view-by-category/computar.html.

The MPY Series functions excellently in several applications. As mentioned before, the flexibility of the line benefits end-users many different ways. For instance, all the complexities of intelligence traffic systems (ITS) require several different lenses to accomplish the task. Considering ITS requires constant communication between car, driver, pedestrians, public transportation, and the system itself, the MPY Series is the perfect solution. Every layer of ITS operation requires lenses to capture up-to-the-minute traffic conditions. The information gathered is then applied to streamline road conditions, modifying signal policies and rerouting drivers to prevent congestions. The self-adaptive system seems like a thing of the future, but Computar and their MPY Series of lenses are bringing that future a step closer.

Moving a step close may be a requirement for some applications. Defense and security applications require clear images for the purpose of identifying threats. The V5028-MPY (50mm) is capable of getting minute details of people, places, and or things. In the defense and security industries getting the small details prevent further instances of petty theft or a terrorist attack. The wide-ranging capabilities of the MPY Series continue a long history of ingenuity at Computar.

Time tested techniques give Computar an edge among competitors in the optics market. The MPY Series flexibility provides everything needed for different applications within or out of the same system. The “Camera Experts” at Aegis Electronic Group, Inc. have the knowledge and the know how to guide the end-user in choosing an MPY Series lens. Call us today at (888)687-6877 to find out more information about Computar products and the MPY Series.

CoaXPress (CXP) is an asymmetric high-speed point to point serial communication standard for the transmission of video and still images, scalable over single or multiple coaxial cables. Intensive research and development efforts have assisted BitFlow in pioneering the CoaXPress Frame Grabber. Moore’s law implies that computers, machines that run on computers, and computing power all become smaller and faster with time. The CoaXPress Frame Grabbers radically demonstrate Moore’s Law. “CXP represents the easiest way to migrate to digital imaging while minimizing costs of deployment, all while gaining speeds four times faster and ranges 10 times longer than competing solutions” (Wade 2017). Employing CoaXPress allows engineers to focus on a single interface, thus improving operational effectiveness. Aegis Electronic Group, Inc. carries three versions of BitFlow’s CoaXPress Frame Grabbers the AON-PC2-CXP1, the CYT-PC2-CXP2 Cyton Dual Channel, and the CYT-PC2-CXP4 Cyton Quad Channel. Reduce your workload, Relax your mind, and Reclaim your time.

The AON-PC2-CXP1 is low-cost single link CoaXPress frame grabber. It supports CXP camera speeds up to 6.25 Gb/S. http://bit.ly/2srQW9p

The CYT-PC2-CXP2 offers an optional high-speed connector that can run the full 6.25 Gb/S from the frame grabber to the camera. The CXP can be used in situations that demand for bulk uploads to the camera or high precision trigger accuracy beyond the current 20 MHz uplink’s capabilities.

http://bit.ly/2smh0Yk

The CYT-PC2-CXP4 can interface with one quad CXP-6 camera (total data rate: 25 Gb/S), or four single link CXP-6 cameras, or anything in between.

Machine Vision & Microscopy: Intermingling of Man and Machine

$

So, at this point, you are probably wondering what this title is about. The “Intermingling of Man and Machine,” sounds like a science fiction book about cyborgs. It is about the relationship between the imaging of man and machine.

The “Closer Picture.”

Machine Vision & Medical Imaging require high resolution, low noise images, and fast frame rates. Advancements in these technologies bring us closer to the answers we seek about ourselves and the world. More specifically, we see industries demanding better sensors to improve applications. Developing applications grants deeper views of how life works.

The CMOS Revolution

Back in the 1990s, Eric Fossum led a team at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab that came up with CMOS technology as a way to reduce the size of cameras launched on interplanetary spacecraft  (MICHAELIDES, 2011). The drive to improve interplanetary space travel brought us closer to Planet Earth and our bodies. This is the meaning of the intermingling of man and machine.

“Spinoffs”

The push to explore beyond the stars has led to some amazing inventions known as “spinoffs.” Well-known spinoffs are LEDs, Anti-Icing Systems, Artificial Limbs, Fire Fighting Gear, and the Ventricular Assist Device. Naming all the spinoffs inventions would be a labor of love. Spinoff inventions have advanced industries such as medical, transportation, public safety, and public recreation. The CMOS lens spun off to play a major role in the advancement of Machine Vision and Medical Imaging.

PixeLINK/Powerhouse?

For decades, the life sciences-centered on the pharmaceutical and medical device industries-have been a powerhouse of innovation, technological advancement and economic growth (Slaper, 2013). Companies such as PixeLINK are leading the way with a variety of imaging options. PixeLINK’s USB3 Vision compliant camera lines are ideal for OEMs and organizations seeking reliable, high-quality industrial cameras with fast data transfer speeds. Bitflow’s New USB Aon-CXP CoaXPress Frame Grabber VS. USB 3.1

$

Bitflow has been the pinnacle of developing high-performance and reliable Frame Grabbers, which can be used for imaging applications since 1993. It is the leader in Camera Link frame grabbers having built the fastest frame grabbers in the world. With reasonably priced products, Bitflow provides the highest camera/frame grabber densities and triggering performance. Bitflow’s dedication to providing its customers with the best image acquisition and application development solutions is unmatched – it has thousands of boards installed globally into hundreds of imaging applications. Their experience and knowledge gives them an edge over all their competition. Bitflow is located in Woburn, MA, and has distributors and resellers across the world including Asia, the Americas and Europe.

This manufacturer of machine vision equipment, which is used in robotics, automated systems and quality control has recently unveiled its Aon-CXP CoaXPress single-link frame grabber. It has been gaining a growing number of supporters from former USB 3.1 users. The Aon-CXP packs within itself the power of larger, multi-link CXP frame grabbers despite being much cheaper than the latter. It can deliver up to a staggering 6.25 Gb/s worth of data over the link. That is almost twice as much as the real world data rate of the standard USB 3.1.

The USB 3.1 is widely regarded as a very simple and cost-effective plug-and-play interface for lower bandwidth applications. The new generation CoaXPress single-link cameras that are combined with the Aon-CXP are now challenging the long standing dominance that the USB 3.1 has held. System integrators will find that they can acquire 2-megapixel imagery at a rate up to 300 frames per second within the same price range as the USB 3.1. Added bonuses are that the new generation CoaXPress single-link cameras are less of a hassle to work with and offer far longer cable lengths.

The CXP vision system can be easily developed with just a simple desktop PC which features a PCI interface, the Aon-CXP frame grabber, a standard coaxial cable up to a length of 40 meters and a single-link CXP camera. The configuration software is included with the Aon-CXP which will locate the camera itself and start acquiring the images.

The cost of the CXP frame grabber itself becomes the standard argument for nay-sayers because the USB 3.1 does not require that component but the fact of the matter is, once you realize that the maximum speed at which the USB 3.1 operates is 382 MB/s. That’s just over half the speed provided by the single-link CXP solution which runs at approximately 600MB/s. A company can take advantage of the faster speed over its competition because the CXP single-link solution provides it at essentially the same price. In several industrial applications, anything above the 400MB/s mark, the USB 3.1 cannot handle it and the CXP wins with its proverbial hands tied behind its back.

The increased latency and image jittering doesn’t really help the USB 3.1 either. Since it does not have the Aon-CXP frame grabber to conduct processing functions, the USB 3.1 depends on the PC for power which draws away the CPU cycles away from the image processing functions of the PC. That makes the image processing slower and less accurate. At 400 MB/s, the USB 3.1’s highest data transfer rate is barely enough to match the base data transfer rate of the CXP so full support for some of the current and probably all next generation sensors is very unlikely.

The Digitization of Business & The Role The Imaging Industry Will Have in The Future

$

Every company in every industry is now moving towards digitization. In fact every company’s top teams are expected to build adequate capabilities for their company to remain significant in the rapidly digitizing world of industry, achieve growth and fend off competitors.

The world has seen a massive change in the way it works over the past few decades as technology has advanced and increased in utility within a vast array of fields and purposes. This digital transformation is the next step in what the initial promise of technology should always have been. What is digitization? Well, it is used in several meanings but in the context of business, it pertains to the creation of a digital version of analog or physical items such as paper documents, microfilm images, photographs and sound etc. It’s simply a conversion or representation of something non-digital in a digital format, which then becomes usable for computing systems for a number of utilities. It does not at all mean that the original documents etc shall be replaced but sometimes it does get destroyed or removed. For instance, you can destroy a document after it has been digitized in order to appease some legal requirements for the purpose of security. In another case, if some sound or motion is captured, the actual movement or sound disappears only to have been recorded in a digital form. It is in that form of capture where the imaging industry resides.

Role of Imaging Industry in the Future

In the age of digitization, nearly everything has been embedded with cameras and sensors. Even our smartphones, cars, wearables and traffic lights are slowly growing more dependent on imaging technology. It is the dawn of a new economy as we can see that every industry from transportation to medicine have started digitizing and the “Internet of Things” will have a revenue that will exceed $309 billion per year.

Imaging technology can improve our lives while also advancing other industries. 3-D facial recognition technology has the potential of helping businesses with making use of big data in numerous ways and in the advancing scheme of things, these insights can be acted upon in real time.

The future role of imaging technology will usher in a new era of “normal” with image related data. We shall be able to rise to the challenges of sorting, storing and classifying all the visual information in a moment’s notice. Facial recognition and gesture related tech will enable people to be able to connect with each other in a more interesting basis in their day-to-day life.

The FBI might no longer have the 25 most wanted criminals’ list because they will be able to catch everyone on it. Security cameras will be able to identify people even better with better quality imaging and using facial recognition technology to identify them in real time. Imaging technology can be a break through way to innovate fighting crime.

Advances like these will depend on intelligent imaging technology so that mere pixels can be turned into visual data that can be acted upon. It will change the way we interact, learn and live.

A Battle Without A Real Winner

$

No need to shudder this is a battle without a real winner. The ideal shutter truly comes down to 2 things, necessity and budget. Of course, you can read a thousand reviews and buy the most expensive equipment possible. The artistry of the industry, however, is, of course, subjective—regardless of your preference when it comes to your shutter most of the time no one knows the difference, but there are some nuances to the global and rolling shutter types.

Rolling Shutters:

Rolling shutter technology, which can operate mechanically or electronically, is the type of shutter typically used for DSLR cameras, in addition to still cameras and phone cameras. These work for everyday use, but of course have their limitations.

The rolling shutter mechanism is synonymous with using CMOS sensor scans to develop scenes vertically or horizontally. This can be problematic since the image is not captured at once, and may cause distortions depending on the direction of the shutter.

The rolling shutter depending on its readout speed can result in imaging artifacts when attempting to capture robust motion, as in fast PTZ or the scene of a speeding vehicle.

If you were planning to utilize a rolling shutter to capture an image it would be pertinent to get the camera with the highest readout speed to result in less imaging artifacts.

The imaging artifacts typically appear from objects of speed in the frame but have also been known to respond to exposure. You won’t get these results from stationary stills proving rolling shutters are still very useful for some aspects of industry.

Like in the case of our:

uEye UI-1460C USB2.0 Color CMOS Cameras Global or Rolling Shutter for Machine Vision and Medical Applications

Available on our website, this camera has a C-mount lens,  ½” CMOS image sensor, 8bit color depth and a 10 fps frame rate.

Some of the rolling shutter benefits are that it is more cost-effective, it generates less heat will have less noise and a wider range.

Global Shutters:

Global shutter systems have progressed as the industry norm. The use of CCD sensors has are ideal for forensic, medical, and industry that requires detailed high-resolution images. Most global shutter cameras operate utilizing a CCD sensor, but it isn’t unheard of for CMOS to still be used in some cases. Which is good a lead-in to introduce the Hikvision MV-CA050-20UM/C:

MV-CA050-20UM/UC
5.0 MP 1″ CMOS USB 3.0 Camera

This camera has a 1″ CMOS (Python 1300), 2592 x 2048 Resolution, Global shutter; auto-exposure, manual exposure, one-key exposure and runs on USB 3.0.

With the MC-CA050-20UMC, Hikvision adopts a global shutter with a CMOS image sensor for camera modules. This structure of sensor outputs images free of imaging artifacts for quick motion and is utilized in FA/machine vision cameras.

The benefit of the global shutter that separates it from the rolling shutter is that opposed to the vertical or horizontal scan, a global shutter captures all parts of the scene in one instant. Simultaneously capturing the image alleviates all possibility of motion artifacts.

Knowing more about your shutter readings can assist your Machine Vision systems to produce the most optimized performance.

Stay ahead of the industry with a new blog post every other week on a range of subjects, and all our new equipment!
